Metallurgical Associates is a leading provider of materials testing, product materials consulting and chemical analysis laboratory services to clients throughout North America, Europe and Asia. Our staff of professional materials testing engineers have many years of experience analyzing and preventing product failures, solving manufacturing processing problems, and evaluating materials and products.
Metallurgical Associates is accredited by the American Association for Laboratory Accreditation (A2LA) to the stringent guide lines of ISO 17025-2005, ensuring that your materials testing results will be recognized and accepted world wide. Compliance is confirmed by ongoing audits at our Milwaukee laboratory and collaborative testing programs. These audits, combined with continual procedure updates, staff training and management reviews, assure accurate, consistent and reliable product and component failure analysis, chemical analysis, and metallurgical testing results.
Raw numbers - tensile strength, chemical composition, case hardness depth - are widely available from laboratories in the commercial materials testing market. This is not our product. Metallurgical Associates is in the business of providing manufacturing insights and solutions. Chemical analyses are evaluated, even when within specification, to identify the effects of elements, such as carbon, chromium, manganese, etc., at the high or low end of their specified range relative to intended processing and end use. Tensile and yield strengths are evaluated relative to the projected application, and if appropriate, alternative materials, heat treatments or other processing are recommended. Fracture modes are identified, as well as the root cause of material fracture initiation. Metallurgical Associates produces answers, not numbers.
Metallurgical Associates materials testing and chemical analysis results are presented as either a comprehensive report, including practical cost effective recommendations to resolve manufacturing or field failure issues, or as data only, organized to your requirements, for clients with in-house expertise. Test reports are emailed directly to clients ensuring immediate turnaround from our fully networked, state-of-the-art materials analysis laboratory in Milwaukee Wisconsin. Report hard copies are provided in printed format, CD, or both, per your requirement.
Metallurgical Associates is a fully independent engineering company, and is not owned by, a subsidiary of, or financially affiliated with any manufacturer or commercial investment entity. Our independence is your assurance that sensitive failure analysis, product materials research and product development performed by Metallurgical Associates is not being evaluated by a metallurgical laboratory that is owned by your competitor through a business network that is not readily apparent.
Our Milwaukee Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) laboratory has been one of Metallurgical Associates most important resources in resolving our clients' metallurgical and failure analysis challenges. SEM is used to determine material fracture root causes, origins and modes, identify specific types and causes of wear, determine the source of corrosive attack, and to track down contamination sources. In short, SEM eliminates uncertainty in these analyses. As a source of so much vital data, the SEM is in constant demand.
In order to provide the fastest and most accurate metallurgical analyses possible to our clients, Metallurgical Associates has purchased a second Scanning Electron Microscope and we now operate two full service SEM labs at our Southeastern Wisconsin facility. Both the AMRAY 1645 and our new AMRAY 1830I provide high resolution, deep focal images at magnifications from 10X to 50,000X. The exceptionally large sample chambers (nearly a cubic foot) offer the ability to analyze large and complex components and samples without destructive sectioning. Metallurgical Associates is the only independent laboratory in the Midwest offering two complete SEM facilities.
Metallurgical Associates successfully performs several thousand failure analyses, manufacturing process problem solving evaluations and materials characterizations each year. Over the past 15 years our engineers have evaluated products ranging from beverage can "pop tops" to aircraft gas turbine blades. Our clients achieve significant and long term cost reductions through failure prevention, process improvements and economical alternative materials recommendations we provide. At Metallurgical Associates, our product is your cost reduction through our problem solving.
