In order to provide the fastest possible turn around for its clients, Metallurgical Associates has purchased a second Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) and now operates two fully equipped SEM facilities. The AMRAY 1645 and the new AMRAY 1830I, provide high resolution, deep focal images at magnifications from 10X to 50,000X. The exceptionally large sample chambers (nearly a cubic foot) can accept sizeable samples without destructive sectioning.

SEM is used to determine fracture origins and modes, identify specific types and causes of wear, determine the causes of corrosive attack, and to identify contamination sources. SEM eliminates uncertainty in these analyses by providing high magnification, high resolution images of defect morphology. MAI is the only independent laboratory in the Mid-West offering two complete SEM facilities.
